Description

This charming cycle tour through the Austrian Salzkammergut, the Bavarian Chiemgau and the impressive mountains of Tyrol is named after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart's birthplace, the historic city of Salzburg, was chosen as the start and finish of this tour. Mozart was born on the banks of the Salzach on January 27, 1756 and was soon celebrated as a child prodigy, playing the piano at the age of 3 and the violin at 4. At the age of just 12, he could already look back on a musical oeuvre that included three operas, six symphonies and many other pieces of music. His childhood was made up of numerous trips throughout Europe, during which he performed his music in concerts. During his rare stays at home, he retreated to Chiemgau and Salzkammergut, visited friends and relatives and recovered from the stresses and strains of traveling. You can now follow in his footsteps on the Mozart Cycle Path, made from Salzburg via St. Gilgen into Chiemgau and via the Tyrolean Inn Valley and along the Salzach back to the Mozart city of Salzburg.

The length of the Mozart Cycle Path, starting and finishing in Salzburg, is around 430 kilometers.
